A Message from our President/CEO
January 21, 2025 at 9:30 AM
My fellow members,
As you all realize, winter storms are a rarity for South Georgia. The interesting thing about winter storms are a large part of those affected will experience a cold rain event. Another large part of those affected will experience snow, and a small group will experience the most dangerous conditions of freezing rain, sleet and ice. It is the possibility of ice that causes us the most concern. Forecasts are predicting that this band of icing will occur further south and east of our service territory. We anticipate most of our system will experience snow.
Much like yourselves, we follow the updates provided by our local emergency management agencies. We try to use that information to help guide our responses. We understand that most schools are closing today at noon and remaining closed tomorrow. With this information we have decided we will close our offices at 12 PM today, Tuesday, January 21 to allow for final preparations and for our office staff to get home safely. Our offices will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22. We will determine the status of the office reopening or remaining closed Thursday or Friday as we monitor the impact of the winter storm tomorrow. Our outside personnel and contract crews are on standby and will respond to power outages as soon as it is safe to do so.
We appreciate your patience and your prayers as we navigate this rare event for our service territory. We will continue to provide updates as we have more information.
Sincerely,
Danny Nichols
President/CEO
